More Than A Tagline,

A Way of Life

At Go Energistics, we believe our company philosophy of SERVING THOSE WHO SERVE is what makes us a unique and powerful leader in the market. We attribute our success in this effort to our team, made up of individuals whose blend of talent and commitment to that mission, has enabled us to utilize our collective expertise and positively impact the lives of our nation’s veterans, project by project.

Why I Serve is a weekly celebration of those teammates, which allows them to share why they are passionate about our mission, in their own words. Many come from military families, or are veterans themselves, and understand the value of veteran support programs first-hand.  Others are simply skilled in their fields and have opted to put those skills towards supporting those who have fought for our freedom, when they need it the most.

GoE Highlights

Unfortunately, I’ve also known people who were not as lucky to receive the appropriate care. I think about that a lot when I do my work and it drives me to work even harder. I am inspired to do anything I can to support my fellow Veterans when they get home and I consider it a privilege to be in a position where I can support programs, such as suicide prevention, that are so close to my heart.

I think I can speak for a lot of people at GoE when I say that the Veterans themselves are the focus of our work, and that our motto truly is a way of life. I knew I wanted to join GoE from my very first interview when I spoke with Adam and Miles about some of the company’s projects, and thought of all my friends who have benefited, or could have benefitted from VA services. Coming from the private healthcare sector, I jumped at the chance to apply my skills toward giving back. As if that wasn’t enough, they then invited me to join them for dinner with one of the Veterans they were sponsoring at the time through the Yellow Ribbon Fund. It turned out to be a friend of mine from my own unit who had lost his leg while serving. GoE had elected to pay for his lodging while he received treatment. They had no idea we knew each other, just wanted to welcome me and introduce two local Veterans. After we all had a good laugh about what a small world it is, I was even more convinced that Go Energistics was the place for me.

ANGELA HOWARD

WhyIServe - Angela Howard.png

Project Manager Angela Howard is a longtime advocate for the highest standards of patient care. After spending 16 years providing bedside care for our nations Veterans as a nurse within the VA, she was tasked with supporting the National Activations Office with Systems Redesign, working to improve patient conditions on a national level, before joining Go Energistics. In the nearly two years since she’s come aboard, she’s brought her expertise as both a project manager and health care provider to our projects in Long Beach, Chico and Redding.

When asked why she serves, she shares how she moved from health care provider to health care systems planner.

“First and foremost, I serve because I believe in VA’s mission entirely. Once admitted, either for a one-time or routine visit, or a long-term stay, our Veterans deserve to receive the highest level of care. Ensuring that they are well looked after, in the best environment possible, has been a major driver throughout my career. I have members of my family, including my son in the Navy reserves, who may one day use Veterans services. I think of how I’d want them treated and feel empowered that I get to influence the care they and other Veterans will receive.

I started my career as a nurse, wanting to bring a level of empathy to patients, thanks to my experiences as a child. I was born with a congenital heart defect, and that meant a lot of time spent in the hospital growing up. I hated being poked and prodded and the whole experience of being in a hospital frankly scared me. My decision to enter the health care field was almost along the lines of ‘keep your friends close and your enemies closer’. I didn’t want to be afraid anymore, so I decided to become an expert. As my career developed, I was able to comfort those who were in my position and make it a more calming experience. Having someone at the bedside who offers that empathy can make the whole experiences less frightening. I ended up spending 16 years providing that empathy to Veterans through bedside, palliative and acute care as a nurse within VA.

I view my move to health care system planning as an extension of the same service I offered as a nurse, only now I able to transform these environments on a

national level, benefiting health care providers like myself, and their patients by extension. The opportunity to get involved came when VA was looking for nurses specifically to be in the performance improvements, what they call ‘Systems Redesign’. The reasoning was that, because we understand how day to day healthcare systems operate, and the typical workarounds that staff use to get their work done, we would have the knowledge of how these systems could be better planned to avoid the need for those workarounds all together. As caregivers, nurses will adapt to pretty much anything in order to get their jobs done, but they shouldn’t have to do that. Cutting corners during planning may appear to save time at the start but it will end up costing time when people are actually trying to do their jobs. Proper planning will allow providers to spend more time with their patients and less time working around process or environment issues.

I worked with my group, made up of former nurses like myself, as an internal activation consultant for four years. In that time, we were able to offer our understanding and help VA to mitigate issues at a variety of facilities, including the Long Beach Health Care System. That was the project which provided me with my first introduction to GoE, and our to Initial Outfitting Transition and Activation services. As an outsider viewing our service line, I was quickly drawn in by the level of expertise, professionalism and innovation solutions I saw displayed, and wanted to get involved. Getting to join the team through my role as a Project Manager for GoE has allowed me to make an even more significant impact in improving our nation’s health care facilities. We are a truly collaborative team, and I’ve learned so much about the design and construction process from my coworkers, while getting to share my expertise in health care systems planning from within VA, and as a health care provider. Together, we are perfecting the IOT&A service line and reimagining health care systems for healthier communities across the U.S.”
